TMJ Pain

Signs and Symptoms:
Jaw Disorders or Temporomandibular Disorder (TMD or also referred to as TMJ pain) is often identified based on having any two of the following criteria:
– Pain / Discomfort at the jaw.
– Clicking / crepitus / popping with jaw movements or chewing.
– Pain in the muscles around the jaw.
– Restricted movement of the jaw.

TMD can also be associated with headaches, grinding your teeth and clenching your jaw. These disorders can arise from trauma such as a strike to the chin or after dentistry, stress or even simple things we do in our day to day lives. Additionally, inflammatory disorders such as Rheumatoid Arthritis and even Hyper-mobility are associated with TMD.

Treatment:
Treatment for TMD depends on what is driving it and this will require assessment. Here at Leap Back Physio we use a combination of massage, joint mobilisation, exercises and activity modifications depending upon our findings. Some cases will require referral to a dentist, or for scans such as x-ray or MRI that is why thorough assessment and treatment need to be explored.

We treat Jaw pain in the clinic regularly and it is not something that needs to be just a part of your life so if you are experiencing the symptoms above we urge you to reach out 03 90772206.
